Everything can be visualised, feelings too! In my graduation project, I explored methods using illustration to create a visual mental health campaign with the purpose of increasing public awareness about mental illness. Using visualisation for this purpose is powerful as it provide the opportunity to draw attention to a subject in which words are not perceived to be enough to explain in words. By the means of empirical and practical examination, the purpose was to create a campaign that would increase public awareness, as well as provide information about mental illness.
For this project, I interviewed relevant individuals (both individuals with mild anxiety and patients with severe mental health issues) to identify key problems and misunderstandings according to their experiences. In addition, I asked them to share their experiences and describe their feelings in whatever format that they wished. The final result consisted of a set of posters along with a brochure. The material was used and shared at an established healthcare site in Malmö, Sweden.
