Ashtanga Yoga
Primary series chart
Ashtanga, as it is.
Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic, physical, and powerful form of yoga made up of six series. The method is made up of a sequence of individual poses (asanas) that are linked by transitions (vinyasas), and involves the synchronisation of the breath while emphasising certain main components.
Ashtanga is often taught using Mysore style. This method differs from the usual way of teaching yoga in that the class is not "led" as a whole, but rather, students practice their own portion of the Ashtanga sequence at their own pace. The teacher assists each student within the group class setting individually by giving physical adjustments & verbal instruction.
Fascinated by the Ashtanga Yoga teaching methodology, I designed a chart representing the first series. The chart gives visual instructions for the Primary Series Sequences including the names of each postures as well as transitions in Sanskrit and English. While being primarily a work of art, the poster can be used as means for learning the sequence.
